Ray Lamontage BIO

The American singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne was born in 1973 in New Hampshire. LaMontagne did not develop an interest in music until he was in his twenties; in 1999 he began writing and performing his own music, ultimately earning a gig as an opening act for Jonathan Edwards and John Gorka at a theater in Maine. The performances garnered Ray some recognition, and after making contact with Chrysalis Music Publishing in 2004, LaMontagne recorded his debut album, Trouble, later that same year.

RCA Records picked up the album, and it went on to become a hit, selling half a million copies worldwide. The songs “All the Wild Horses,” “Trouble,” and “Jolene” found their way onto a variety of television shows, including Rescue Me and Alias, and also onto the big screen in the movies She’s The Man (2006) and The Town (2010.) Ray released his sophomore effort, Till the Sun Turns Balck, in 2006, and the album rose into the top forty on the charts, spawning the title track and the songs “Three More Days,” “Lesson Learned,” “Be Here Now,” and “Within You,” all of which again found their way into the television shows One Tree Hill, Bones, and Covert Affairs, and intot he filmes 27 Dresses and Away from Her.

The albums Gossip in the Grain (2008) and God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise (2010) arrived next, giving audiences the additional hits “You are the Best Thing,” “Beg, Steal, or Borrow,” and “For the Summer.” Recently, LaMontagne received two Grammy nominations in 2010, winning the Best Contemporary Folk Album award for that year. LaMontagne continues to perform and record, and recently began working on material for his next album.
