The R&B group Tony! Toni! Tone! was established in the late 1980’s, by founding members Timothy Christian Riley, Raphael Saadiq, and Dwayne Wiggins. Tony! Toni! Tone! rose to fame following the released of the group’s debut album, Who?, which was released in 1988. The album spawned a number of chart-topping R&B hits, including: “Baby Doll,” “For the Love of You,” and “Born Not to Know.”

 

Tony! Toni! Tone! achieved even greater success with their sophomore album, The Revival, which gave audiences multiple number one R&B hits, including: Whatever You Want,” “The Blues,” “It Never Rains in Southern California,” and “Feels Good,” which went on to become the first single from the group to rise into the top ten and reach goal status.

 

Tony! Toni! Tone! followed the success of the album with Sons of Soul, released in 1993. The album was an even greater success, reaching multi-platinum status and spawning the hits “(Lay Your Head On My) Pillow,” “Anniversary,” and “If I Had No Loot.” The group’s third and final album, House of Music, arrived in 1996 and was also touted by critics as the group’s most significant work. The song “U Will Know” was also a smash hit and included in the soundtrack to the hit movie Jason’s Lyric. Tony! Toni! Tone! also wrote and performed the song “Me & You” for the film Boyz n the Hood.

 

Although the group has not had any album releases in nearly a decade, Tony! Toni! Tone! continues to tour and perform, with current lead singer Antron Haile. Raphael Saadiq has move on to a successful solo career, and D’Wayne Wiggins has also released a solo album. In 2003, the original members of Tony! Toni! Tone! (minus Saadiq) appeared on the album The Diary of Alicia Keys, singing on the track “Diary.” The song rose into the top ten and gave Tony! Toni! Tone! their first hit in over a decade.
