Jillian Rose Banks, known mononymously as Banks, is an American singer-songwriter born on June 16, 1988, in Los Angeles, California. She gained recognition in 2013 with her breakout single "Before I Ever Met You," but her journey into music began earlier as a teenager when she started writing and composing songs. A self-taught pianist, Banks initially shared her music on SoundCloud, which helped her build an audience and launch her career.

In 2013, Banks released two extended plays: "Fall Over" and "London," both available for digital download. These early works earned her recognition and nominations for various awards from MTV and the BBC. She was included in notable lists such as iTunes' New Artists for 2014 and received acclaim from publications like Spin, Vogue, and the Huffington Post.

Following the success of her EPs, Banks signed with Harvest Records and released her debut studio album, "Goddess," in 2014. The album achieved positive critical reception and debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Beggin for Thread," was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Banks' subsequent albums, "The Altar" (2016) and "III" (2019), also received favorable reviews and charted well, further establishing her presence in the music industry.

In 2024, Banks celebrated the tenth anniversary of her debut album "Goddess" with a series of shows in London, Los Angeles, and New York City.
