Jussie Smollet BIO

The American actor and singer Jussie Smollett was born in 1983 in Santa Rosa, California. Jussie began acting while still in elementary school, appearing in a number of small commercials, until his feature film debut in 1992 in The Mighty Ducks. This was followed by a role in the film North (1994), and a role on the ABC series On Our Own.


Throughout the 1990’s and into the new millennium, Jussie Smollett appeared in small roles in a number of films and television shows. But his big breakthrough came in 2014, when Smollett was offered the role of Jamal Lyon on the hit FOX series Empire. Jussie received rave reviews for his performance, and since that time he has also returned to his first love, as a singer-songwriter. Smollett’s debut EP, The Poisoned Hearts Club, arrived in 2012, and he recently signed his first major label deal with Columbia Records as a solo artist. A number of Jussie’s original songs have been featured on the series Empire, including “I Wanna Love You” and “You’re So Beautiful.”
