Daniel Caesar BIO

 

Daniel Caesar is a Canadian singer and songwriter born Ashton Simmonds in 1995. He lived in Oshawa, Ontario and was one of four children to actively religious parents and gospel singers. He is both Barbadian and Jamaican. He attended a Seventh-day Adventist church and went to a private school in his city. Daniel Caesar released two extended plays that garnered great attention nationally: Praise Break in 2014 and Pilgrim’s Paradise in 2015.

His debut album Freudian dropped in 2017, and many singles were certified by the RIAA and Canada’s MC. The single “Best Part” with H.E.R. was performed at award shows across the country and won the Grammy in 2019 for Best R&B Performance. His sound was critically acclaimed for being one of the freshest takes on R&B in recent memory. His second album, Case Study 01, met similar praise.

Freudian was certified Gold and peaked as high as #25 on the Billboard 200 list.
