The American folk-rock band known as Dawes was established in Los Angeles, California, in the late 2010’s by founding members and brothers Griffin Goldsmith and Taylor Goldsmith. After teaming up with Lee Pardini on keyboards and Wylie Gelber on bass, Dawes.

The band’s unique sound – a blend of classic folk artists such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young – eventually caught the attention of producer Jonathan Wilson. Wilson facilitated the recording of their debut album, North Hills, which Rolling Stone hailed as “authentically vintage.” Dawes got a big boost in popularity after an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 2010, just before the group entered the studio to record its follow-up album, Nothing is Wrong.

The album arrived in 2011 and rose into the top twenty on the US Rock charts, faring even better than North Hills. But it was Dawes’s third album, Stories Don’t End, that became their biggest breakthrough, rising into the top forty on the mainstream charts and into the top ten on the US Rock charts. Since that time, Dawes has released the additional albums All Your Favorite Bands (2015) and We’re All Gonna Die (2016.)

Dawes is definitely a band on the rise and one to watch in the coming years. The band’s most recent release, the live album We’re All Gonna Live, arrived in February of 2017.
