LCD Soundsystem is an American electronic rock band formed in 2002 in Brooklyn, New York, by James Murphy, who is also a co-founder of DFA Records. The band consists of Murphy (vocals, various instruments), Nancy Whang (synthesizer, keyboards, vocals), Pat Mahoney (drums), Tyler Pope (bass, guitar, synthesizer), Al Doyle (guitar, synthesizer, percussion), Matt Thornley (guitar, synthesizer, percussion), and Korey Richey (synthesizer, piano, percussion). LCD Soundsystem has been signed to DFA Records since their inception and to Columbia Records since 2016.The band's early work includes several singles released between 2002 and 2004, with "Losing My Edge" being one of their signature tracks. In 2005, they released their self-titled debut studio album, which received critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album. The standout single " Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" achieved commercial success and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. In 2006, they released "45:33," a forty-five-minute composition commissioned as a workout track for Nike's Nike+ Original Run series. Their second album, "Sound of Silver", was released in 2007 and also received critical acclaim, earning another Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album.LCD Soundsystem's third album, "This Is Happening", was released in 2010 and marked their first top-ten album in the United States. In February 2011, the band announced their disbandment, culminating in a farewell concert at Madison Square Garden on April 2, 2011. This concert is documented in the film "Shut Up and Play the Hits" and was subsequently released as a live album, "The Long Goodbye", in April 2014.After years of speculation regarding a reunion, LCD Soundsystem released their first new single, "Christmas Will Break Your Heart," in December 2015, confirming their return. Following this, the band announced an expanded tour schedule, which included performances at various prominent music festivals. Their fourth studio album, "American Dream", was released in September 2017 and became their first number-one album in the United States. The album was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, while the single "Tonite" won the award for Best Dance Recording.
