Mo BIO

The Danish singer and songwriter known as MO was born Karen Marie Aagaard Orsted in 1988. MO grew up in Ejlstrup, on the island of Funen. As a young woman, MO learned to play instruments and write her own music, and while still in her teen years she released her first project (“The Edmunds”), featuring a few of her original singles. In 2007, she formed the DUO called MOR, alongside friend and fellow musician Josefine Struckmann Pederson, and released two EPs as MOR.

 

In 2013, MO released her debut single, “Glass,” followed by the song “Pilgrim.” Both performed well on the Danish Singles charts, and set the stage for a debut EP, Bikini Daze, which arrived in late 2013. By the time MO signed with Sony Music and released her debut full-length album, No Mythologies to Follow, she already had a strong fan base in her native country and a growing international following.

 

MO followed the release of the album with an extensive tour of Europe and the United States, including performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Saturday Night Live, which further boosted her popularity in the United States. Later that year, she won Danish Album of the Year, Danish Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Danish Solo Artist of the Year at the Danish Music Awards. But it was her single “Final Song” which became her big international breakthrough, rising to the top of the charts internationally and into the top twenty on the UK charts.

 

MO is clearly an international star on the rise and one to watch in the coming years.
