The turntablist known as Mix Master Mike was born Michael Schwartz in 1970 in San Francisco, California. Mix Master Mike rose to prominence in the early 1990’s, and by the latter part of that decade he’d become best known for his work with the Beastie Boys.

 

With the Beastie Boys, Mix Master Mike’s talents appear on the albums: Hello Nasty (1998), To the 5 Boroughs (2004), and Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (2011.) Mix Master Mike replaced DJ Hurricane and his work for the group, and he continues to perform with the Beastie Boys during their live performances and in studio recordings. But Mix Master Mike has also produced a number of his own albums, including: Juko (1991), Anti-Theft Device (1998), Eye of the Cyklops (2000), Spin Psycle (2001), Bangzilla (2004), and NaPALM ROCKETS (DubStep) (2010.) He has also assisted in the production of albums for other DJs.

 

Most recently, Mix Master Mike joined Travis Barker in 2011 for a number of live performances, including an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Mix Master Mike’s signature style includes the “tweak scratch,” with which he is credited for inventing. He frequently incorporates the use of a wah-wah pedal into his performance, which is usually reserved for guitarists.
